Not the cold epoxy that gets sold as \"enamel\". Real vitreous enamel is glass, and it behaves like glass: the colour is in the material, so it won't fade in sunlight or peel away at the edges.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAnything can go on one.\u003c\/strong\u003e Most people start with their dog or their cat. We have also painted a soft-boiled egg in an egg cup, lily of the valley climbing a ring shank, a rabbit sheltering under a leaf in the rain, a carousel horse, a teddy bear with a pink bow, and a campfire under a row of moon phases. Those cells are filled with finely ground glass, laid in wet with a brush, one colour at a time. The piece then goes into a kiln at around \u003cstrong\u003e800°C\u003c\/strong\u003e, where the glass melts and fuses to the gold itself. It comes out, is ground back flush with the metal, and goes in again — usually several times, because each colour and each layer needs its own firing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat you end up with is glass, not paint. It won't fade in sunlight or peel the way a printed transfer or a cold epoxy \"enamel\" does.
